Ericsson has launched a social networking portfolio for mobile network operators, the Pixl8r initiative and the Social Media Portal. The platform enables sharing of user-generated content across diverse networks. The Pixl8r initiative allows photo sharing sites to interact in real time. Via Pixl8r, mobile customers can share social media across different operator portals and receive SMS notification of friends' activities regardless of network. Ericsson's Social Media Portal enables operators to deliver a Pixl8r-compatible social networking service allowing users to connect to the social web using their mobile phone. Service subscribers can post and access real-time, user-generated content to diverse internet communities. The content is backed up on a community portal that offers personal storage, synchronization, unified messaging and services for sharing content such as photos and videos with friends and family.
