Wikipedia blackout 18 January 2012

Online encyclopedia Wikipedia shut down its English-language website for 24 hours starting midnight Tuesday Eastern Standard Time (0500 GMT) in an unprecedented move to protest two bills - the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA), which are currently going through the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Politics 2.0 Google announces Campaign Tool 05 June 2010

Google announced the launch of its Campaign Tool and its subsidiary, YouTube also launched Campaign Toolkit. And if that were not enough, Facebook launched a U. S. Politics page.
Google’s Campaign Tool includes YouTube and a long list of its other products such as AdWords, Moderator, Analytics and Alerts. Google promises to make campaigning easier and offers demos of how the products can be used to enhance communication between the campaign and voters. It’s nothing extraordinary and is simply all of its products contained in one space for reference.

Disney Selling Toy Story 3 Tickets on Facebook 02 June 2010

Disney this week has launched a Facebook app called Tickets Together, which lets user purchase movie tickets through the popular social network. Once purchased, the apps will alert your Facebook friends, so you don't have to go to the movie by your lonesome. The service was actually launched last week without much fanfare. The new app coincides with presale tickets for Toy Story 3 which is do out in theaters June 18. Interested parties can use the app to buy tickets in groups as large as 80.

Google Buys Aardvark Social Search Network 12 February 2010

Google has announced the acquisition of Aardvark for a reported $50 million, and with it a new way to leverage social networks to find fast, relevant answers to questions. Aardvark is pushing something it calls “social search.” Instead of looking at Web pages to find answers to search queries, Aardvark’s service taps a person’s network of social contacts. Ask Aardvark for anything from restaurant recommendations to home improvement tips, and the service will relay the question to Facebook and Twitter friends who have identified themselves as “experts” on various topics.
